I have started to sort through some of my older quilts.....They have been loved by The McKinley's for years!! And they have been washed many, many times.
They are too ragged to be used on beds or to snuggle up in while watching TV.
I have decided to cut the ragged quilts!
There are a few blocks that are in good shape.
I will use the blocks for sewing projects, or tucked in blog pal packages. And the blocks with be much easier to store! No more quilts in the linen closet that can't be used for keeping warm!
Off to get my scissors!!!

I am so glad they have been loved and cuddled with, and will find another way of being treasured!!! Happy cutting and creating! xo Heather
ReplyDeleteI'm sure you will find ways to give these sad old gals a new life they will love! I understand the debate though, I looked at my 'cutter' $1.00 vintage tablecloth for a month. Last week I made one tea towel and three napkins! You know you need to do something but it's hard to do it.
ReplyDeleteHappy creating! Can't wait to see more!
ReplyDeleteoooo!!! they would make fabulous teddybears!
ReplyDeletesuch fun you will have playing with these!
have a great day

Are the square big enough for pillows? I love worn out quilts. They have been loved!

p.s. I decided to wait and mail your hat, so it is on it's way now! I have no idea how long it will take to get from Virginia to California! That hat has traveled through more state than I have!
Good morning, Chris! So glad I found you this morning--what a treat! I love finding new vintage-loving friends...
ReplyDeleteGreat idea for your loved & worn out quilts--I'm sure you will give them all beautiful new lives!
I'll be following along--wishing you the most wonderful day!

This is the perfect thing to do. Not worth fighting the urge anymore...get the scissors and make something new out of them. Be careful though...it gets very addicting...smiles...Renee
ReplyDeleteOh my goodness, tucked in blog pal packages, what a lovely idea. Well worth the effort.
ReplyDeleteEnjoy.

Chris, thanks so much for your sweet comment about my little Max. It was much appreciated. I love those old quilts. There's just something about the way they feel. I know you'll have fun with the pieces. Have a great week!
ReplyDeleteLove those old quilts! Will be fun to see what you make of them - teddy bears? pincushions? oh, the possibilities!

Oh Chrism My brother and I had to face this same issue with our childhood quilts. My brother had a quilter combine the good blocks and create a border from jeans he had worn over the years. Mine, I put through the wash for the last time! It fell to pieces. Good you are repurposing yours, can't wait to see what you do with them. Have a lovely weekend. Elizabeth
ReplyDeleteChris, I did the same thing one time to a quilt my Nanny had made. I felt such shame and regret for doing so, but I did same some of the pieces and made them into pillows. The only alternative is to fold them up and show them off in a pile on a shelf. I am sure that whatever you do with them will be lovely!!

Oh- even the shabby ones would look great framed but if you want to tuck one into a package to me, that would be fine. ;) Hee-hee!
